The Joy Of Choose Your Own Adventure Books

As a kid, choose your own adventure books fostered a love for reading. As an adult, I find myself coming back to them whenever I need to rekindle that spark. Come with me as we discover the best the horror genre offers!

If you were a reader in the ‘90s, chances are you had a few of these on your shelf. Choose Your Own Adventure books first started to emerge on the scene in the ‘70s, gaining a foothold in the children’s market by branding itself as an entirely new form of reading. And it wasn’t exactly wrong. The thrill of these books as a kid was always that I was right in the story. The story was mine, the choices I made mattered, and the power was entirely in the reader’s hands. As a kid, it was a big deal, and as an adult, I can find myself needing that same boost.

Reading slumps happen. Life happens, and if you’re looking to shake up your reading schedule, these quick little books are always a great place to start. As I’ve mentioned in my post about overcoming reading slumps, choose-your-own-death books are one of the fastest ways for me to get out of one. They’re fun, they’re fast, and more often than not, these adult-variety adventures are steamy as hell.
